Academics
We are excited to announce the start of the school year! Topeka Catholic administrators met earlier today to discuss moving forward together to best serve our families. Hayden’s first half days will be Tuesday, August 25 and Wednesday, August 26. Topeka Catholic grade schools will begin with a half day on Wednesday, August 26. All Topeka Catholic Schools will have a first full day of school on Thursday, August 27. Each school’s academic calendar will be adjusted to meet the specific needs of their own community. These updates will be communicated to families soon.
An August 25 start date benefits us in several ways. It ensures our safety and cleaning protocols will comply with Shawnee County Health Department guidelines. It allows our staff and teachers to plan accordingly for the new standards issued by the KSDE on July 15 as well as receive formal training on cleaning and sanitizing their classrooms and work areas. It is an opportunity for our families to follow recommended health guidelines at summer’s end to enter the school year healthy.
Hayden will continue to work with the Shawnee County Health Department to finalize our Welcome Our Wildcat (WOW) Plan. We released an overview last week. You can view it here: WOW plan overview
- 1st/5th period can be scheduled anytime between 8:00 and 9:15
- 2nd/6th period between 9:30 and 10:45
- 3rd/7th period between 11:00 and 12:30
- 4th/8th period between 1:30 and 3:00
There are several ways to pay your tuition. All families should have a My School Bucks Account and can submit their payment online. Families are welcome to mail a check to Hayden as we are checking mail twice each week. If you need to make other arrangements, please call the business office at 272-5210, Ext. 138, leave a message and we will contact you.
We understand these are difficult times for families. We want to partner with you so please reach out to us so we can build a plan together. Please call the business office at 272-5210, Ext. 138 and leave a message and we will contact you.
Yes! We have a virtual enrollment process in place. If you know someone that is looking for a Faith First Education, have them reach out to us via haydencatholic@haydencatholic.net and we will contact them.
We are planning our school year to begin as planned (See the Hayden calendar) but Hayden is in contact with the Shawnee County Health Department and they will provide us information as to when we will be able to resume school. Once we have the information, we will share it with all of our families.
Hayden offers three different honors level courses for incoming Freshman: Math, English and Science. Counselors and the Department Chair from each discipline will review State testing scores (Scantron, MAP, etc.), talk with each Catholic Middle School to obtain recommendations and some will administer a placement test. We’ll revisit testing dates (analog or virtual) based on County, State, or National COVID-19 guidelines.

Not at this time. We are hopeful this current disruption will not impede any of our summer plans, including summer classes. summer camps, or the golf tournament.
Tradition
We don’t anticipate having our traditional evening event, but the prom committee is in theprocess of brainstorming alternative plans!
Absolutely! Mrs. VanDonge and her student publications team are still hard at work compiling our treasured memories from this year.
Hayden will provide an update as soon as we have one.
Service
Of course corporal works of mercy hours are going to be a challenge during this time. The Hayden Theology department and Fr. Carter are re-evaluating the service learning requirements as well. Watch for communication on how we will proceed.
Hayden will post an answer soon.
